My Story…
I'm running my first ever half marathon to raise money for the American Association for Cancer Research on behalf of my beloved late aunt, Deborah Danoff.
Aunt Debbie was a deeply curious, caring, and kind woman. As a clinician and professor of immunology, she touched countless lives of patients. As a civil servant for Health Canada, she dedicated her life to the pursuit of scientific research and public health. In her personal life, she enjoyed traveling, theater, and learning. Most of all, she loved spending time with her siblings and her human and alfenpinscher "kids".
She passed away in August 2025 after a multi-year long battle with cancer.
In both aunt Debbie's professional career and personal life, she dedicated her life to caring for others and a strong pursuit of knowledge and truth. The defunding of scientific research and increasing anti-science rhetoric in the United States was deeply concerning to her. I can think of no better way to honor her memory than by raising money for cancer research - both to carry on her legacy of scientific discovery and to hopefully benefit others suffering from cancer.
All donations for my race will go directly to American Cancer Research society. AACR is the largest 501(c)(3) research organization in the US dedicated to ending cancer via research, education, and policy. You can learn more about the cause here: https://www.aacr.org/.
