My Story…
I’m running my second marathon in memory of my brother and grandparents.
Cancer has taken too many people in my life-grandparents, aunts, uncles and my younger brother. My brother, Glen, was diagnosed with a glioblastoma when he was 5 years old. His tumor grew quickly causing vision problems and eventually leaving him blind after surgery. Even though he lost his vision he was the happiest person I knew. He was always very inquisitive and loved to tell jokes. He had regular check ups and had been cancer free for years. We all felt very lucky to have him with us. In the fall of 2004, he started getting sinus infections and feeling run down to the point where he was too tired to walk at times and was hospitalized. They ran many tests and we were told he had colon cancer that had metastasized to his liver. He quickly deteriorated and passed away within days. Cancer treatment has progressed so much over the years and it’s important to continue research to improve the quality of life for those with cancer.
