Support. Inspire. Empower.
hi! Thank you for stopping by and reading my story 💜
The color purple represents bravery, strength, and resilience. This is why it is the chosen color of the addiction recovery movement. It's also associated with Cystic fibrosis awareness. This color is a good reminder that the "impossible" can be made possible through hard work and dedication.
On the night of August 27th, 2018, I almost lost my life. I had the most intense spiritual experience in the few minutes I was "gone". During this experience, I thought "but I'm not finished yet," and BOOM! With the help of medical intervention and GOD, I woke up. Something felt so different in that moment, it's hard to put it into words, but basically, it felt as if my soul was restored. I now live the life that I once desperately prayed for and although things aren't "perfect", I always try to remain grateful. It feels surreal and strange to talk about as a mother now, so many years later, but I am forever grateful that I was given another chance at life and was able to access the resources needed to start on my healing process.
A huge source of 'running' inspiration for me is a woman named Sophie Grace Holmes. She's 32 years old, living with Cystic fibrosis. As a child, her parents were told she wouldn't live past her teenage years, then at age 19, she was given two years to live. She didn't want this to be her story and she decided to defy her odds by pushing her mental and physical boundaries by doing things she was told she couldn't. She now holds a Guinness World Record for the most consecutive marathons run by someone with CF. She ran 36 marathons in 36 freaking days! This is absolutely mind blowing for someone living with a life threatening lung disease, especially being in the state she was in several years ago. Her story has inspired me to push myself, so that I can show my daughters that anything is possible and that cystic fibrosis doesn't define them. If she can run like this, with this condition, then I can absolutely achieve a tiny portion of what she has. Alivia and Isabella (my daughters) have been coming along with me on my runs, as I push them in our jogging stroller. They also love joining in on my warm ups. It's slowly becoming a fun little routine for us. I hope that this has a positive and lasting impact on their physical health as I teach them the importance of exercise. Afterall, look what exercise alone has done for Sophie.
I'm choosing to fundraise for The Herren Project because this amazing organization helped me during a time of need many years ago. I have many friends who were also scholarship recipients, who have turned their lives around, 180°. If you don't understand addiction, that's okay, but I'm here to tell you that it certainly doesn't discriminate. It can happen to anyone. Once someone is "in the cycle," it feels damn near impossible to break free. I have lost way to many beloved people to addiction. They are brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, cousins, friends— creative, intelligent, kind, loving, talented people. I promised them that their deaths wouldn't be in vain, and this is how I will continue to honor them. I have so much inspiration behind me, motivating me on this journey, I hope you'll follow along! Raising money for The Herren Project means giving people another chance at life. It is making valuable resources available to people who are willing to take that difficult first step. Your donation, no matter the size, is helping to create a significant change, and possibly even save a life. I will be forever grateful if you find it in your heart to join my mission of helping others build the life that they're likely desperately praying for like I once was, like so many of my friends were. A life full of bravery, strength, and resilience, where we turn pain into purpose 💜
Xx, Sabrina
