My Story…
My name is Jean-Pierre Nsanzabera, and on May 3rd I am running 26.2 miles for 3,627 reasons.
3,627 is not just a number. It is the number of children in Allegheny County who are experiencing homelessness right now. Kids who wake up every morning not knowing where they will sleep that night, but still show up to school. Still trying. Still hoping someone in their community believes in them.
I believe in them. And I am running for them.
I am running the 2026 Pittsburgh Marathon for the Homeless Children's Education Fund, an organization that shows up for these kids year after year, connecting them with the educational support, resources, and stability they deserve. HCEF does not just help kids survive. It helps them thrive.
Here is how you can be part of this.
On April 12th, my birthday, I will be running 20 miles as part of my training. I am turning that day into a community event called Move for Kids on 4/12. Run a mile, walk around the block, hit the gym, do yoga in your living room. Any movement counts. Then share it with #MoveForKids412 and donate $4.12 in honor of the date.
And on May 3rd, when I cross that finish line in Pittsburgh, I want to know that this community ran with me.

Donate to help raise money for Homeless Children's Education Fund (HCEF) during Marathon Weekend. Your donation helps students break the cycle of homelessness through educational achievement. HCEF provides programming for students in kindergarten to age 24. Programming includes afterschool, tutoring support, social and emotional regulation, college and career prep, as well as enrichment, emergency funding and educational grants.
