My Story…

At 38, I heard the words no one ever expects to hear: “You have Parkinson’s.” In that moment, my life split into a before and an after. By forty, the diagnosis forced me to retire. When my job went, everything else followed. We lost our house. We lost our cars. Even our dog passed away. It felt like life was testing every limit I had. My three kids had a hard time too. Our oldest son was out in the world trying to make it on his own. Another had just graduated; trying to figure out adulthood while watching his parent fall apart. My daughter was only 15, still a child, and suddenly faced with fear and uncertainty most adults never have to carry. Watching them struggle was harder than anything happening to me. But I did not stay in that place of loss. I pushed myself to crawl out from under it. Inch by inch. Day by day. There were no shortcuts. It took resilience, support, and a deep belief that my family deserved a version of me who kept moving forward.
