My Story

Hey all! Thanks for stopping by my fundraising page. I will be fundraising and running the 2026 Grandma’s Full Marathon in support of Save the Boundary Waters!

A little about the organization I am fundraising (and running 26.2 miles) for:

The Save the Boundary Waters, led by Northeastern Minnesotans for Wilderness in Ely, MN, is a national coalition of 400+ conservation, hunting & fishing organizations & businesses united to achieve a permanent ban on copper mining in the headwaters of the Boundary Waters and Voyageurs National Park.

Copper mining threatens Minnesota’s environment, local economy, and way of life. This risky type of mining, adjacent to and upstream of the Boundary Waters—would harm the interconnected lakes, streams, rivers, and forests.

Copper mining is one of the most toxic industries in America, and the construction of such a mine would have disastrous implications on wildlife, clean water, and the global climate.

With the support of people like you and I - Save the Boundary Waters is leading the effort to protect the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness from sulfide-ore copper mining.

Any and all donations are appreciated! Growing up in Duluth, MN, I was lucky enough to be surrounded by incredible ecosystems and valuable watersheds. In a way, time spent exploring those environments, raised me alongside my parents and grandparents - all outdoor enthusiasts to boot! I now seek to do my part to protect and preserve the BWCA and surrounding watersheds for generations to come! By running really far??!

Description

The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) is an undeveloped 1.1 million-acre federal and state-recognized Wilderness Area. It is an expanse of lakes, rivers, and forests in the Superior National Forest, located along the Minnesota-Canada border, that has been protected by statute and international treaty for more than a century. This is the sixth most critical region in the lower 48 to protect for climate resiliency and contains 20% of all the freshwater in the entire National Forest System. The water in the Boundary Waters is so clean, you can dip your cup and drink straight from the lake.

Save the Boundary Waters is the locally-based, national campaign led by Northeastern Minnesotans for Wilderness based in Ely, Minnesota dedicated to permanently protecting America’s most beloved Wilderness Area – the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
