Cancer has always been a part of my life, just as it has been for so many people around the world.

My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was 13. I still remember walking into my middle school science class carrying a 3D breast model that her oncologist lent me for a project on breast cancer.  At the time, I knew cancer meant something to me, but I don't think I understood how deeply it would impact my life. 

My mom has since reached remission, but our battle with cancer didn't end there. Both of my grandmothers, two of my aunts, and numerous other loved ones have faced a cancer diagnosis. It has touched nearly every part of my life, making the importance of finding novel ways to prevent, diagnose, and treat this disease deeply meaningful to me.

When I thought about why I wanted to run the Philadelphia Half Marathon on behalf of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), the answer is simple: I run for those whose lives have been, and will be changed, by the work that AACR supports.

Every mile is for the countless patients and families whose lives have been changed by cancer. By supporting my run, you are also supporting the research that brings us closer to better treatments, better outcomes, and, ultimately, a world where fewer families have to experience the impact of this disease.
