My Story…
Mental health is a cause that is deeply personal to me.
Over the past several years, I have lost people I cared about to mental health struggles, and I have seen firsthand the impact mental illness can have on families.
My father has lived with severe schizophrenia and mental health challenges, which has given me a deeper understanding of the importance of awareness, support, and access to resources.
This year, I decided I wanted to do more than just talk about mental health. I wanted to take action. Participating in the CMHA Push-Up Challenge, doing a 21km Spartan Race with my Wife and now we will be completing both a 5km and 10km run for CMHA Alberta, this is our way of raising money while also putting myself out there, which is not something that comes naturally to me. If sharing my story helps start conversations and reduce stigma, then it is worth it.
One of the most rewarding parts of this journey has been having my children get involved. They actively participated in the Push-Up Challenge and helped raise awareness alongside me. Seeing them learn the importance of supporting mental health has made me incredibly proud.
I also believe strongly in the connection between physical activity and mental well-being. While exercise is not a cure, it can play an important role in supporting mental health, building resilience, and improving overall well-being.
I am doing this for those we have lost, for those who continue to struggle, and for the families who support them every day.
Thank you for any support and even taking the time to read this.
Let's keep the conversation going, break the stigma, and remind people that they are never alone.
