The Ikara Ultra is a life-changing adventure in an iconic South Australian location. It is a true outback journey and a chronicle of ancient landscapes. Let’s gather in Ikara, the Aboriginal name for ‘meeting place,’ and let our stories flow through our shared love of trails, running, and community.
For 2027 we're bringing back the classic distances; 100 Mile, 100 Km, 50 Mile, and 50 km.
Additionally, we've added two more options based on runner feedback:
- The NorthSouth 50+50. Start with the 100 Milers and run the stunning 50 km section from Mt Little to Wilpena Pound on Friday, have a lovely night of rest, and then join the regular 50 km on Saturday. Turn your Flinders trip into a 100 km epic across two days.
- The Heysen Adventure. We had some runner requests to offer the 50 Mile course without the Tanderra Saddle loop. Well, here it is! You’ll start at the Parachilna Trailhead with the 50 Milers, enjoy all of the Aid Stations on your trip South, and finish at Wilpena Pound.

We've trimmed the Tanderra Saddle loop from the 50 Mile course to create the Heysen Adventure. Start at the Parachilna Trailhead with the 50 Milers, enjoy all of the Aid Stations on your trip South, and finish at Wilpena Pound. This course will suit people wanting to enjoy their Flinders running adventure without the pressure of running Tanderra Saddle in the evening. We've saved you some money by not using trackers.
