This awesome, family friendly event is back again for an IN-PERSON experience in 2020. So... what's different?
EVERYTHING! We have a new location, new style, new guidelines - but we will definitely still have a blast! This year's Halloween themed event will take place at the Kanuga Conference Center in Hendersonville, NC (located just before you get to the DuPont State Recreational Forest). Click here for more information on our amazing new venue.
Scared of the dark? Don't fret, this year we have wave starts during the day light! Or have fun in the woods in the dark and sign up for one of our later start waves!
There are cabins to rent, a new mountain bike park to explore, tons of trails, and beautiful scenery. We can't wait to share it all with you!
Costumes are strongly encouraged - we want to see you in your best Halloween get up!

Wave Start Times
When registering, you will select a wave start that will be a 14 minute window. You can show up and begin your race at any point during that window. Each wave can have up to 50 participants in it.
Participants are allowed to change their wave start times up until 6:00 PM on October 16th. After that, all wave start times will be final. Again, each wave is limited to 50 participants, so your desired start time may be fully booked as we get nearer to race day.
CLICK HERE for instructions on how to change your start time.
Event Precautions and COVID-19 Policies
- The event is capped at 225 total participants, with limited participant wave starts.
- Online registration will close at 6:00 PM on October 16th - make sure to sign up before then!
- There will be designated, socially-distanced cheer stations along the course. Come out and cheer on your friend/family member at one of these cheer spots! (more info coming soon)
- No walk-up registration on race day
- Coordinated social distancing at the start line
- All staff/volunteers will be required to wear a face covering during the event.
- Participants are encouraged to wear a face covering until the event starts and then put it back on after they are finished running/walking in the event.
- Unfortunately, with social distancing measures in place, we will not have a finish line 'experience' of music, hanging out and waiting on the results or an awards ceremony. After you are finished with your race, we ask that you grab your goodies and head out of the venue area.
- Awards will be available to be picked up locally or mailed after the event.
- Other changes will be added and communicated to participants prior to the event.
Course info
One mile fun run/walk - a loop around the beautiful, wooded campus wrapped around the sparkling 30-acre Kanuga Lake. The one mile course is run around the pristine lake and on the Daisy Trail. The surfaces consist of paved road, single track, dirt sections and grass and gravel paths. It is mostly flat. No strollers allowed due to the roots and gravel sections on the course.
The 5k Course is run entirely through the wooded campus at the Kanuga Conference Center. The 5k course includes a beautiful loop on the Daisy Trail around the sparking 30-acre Kanuga Lake and has a mixture of single track trail and gravel, paved, dirt and grass paths and roads through Kanuga property. (CLICK HERE for 5k course map)
The course is flat around the lake with a few roller hills through the property. Total elevation gain is almost 200 feet for the entire 3.1 route.
No strollers allowed due to the roots and gravel.

DEFERRALS, TRANSFERS AND CANCELLATION POLICY
Above all else, we are striving to make this event as safe as it can possibly be for all our participants, volunteers, and staff. If you're feeling unwell (or uncomfortable participating), we want you to be able to stay home, stay safe, and join us next year without feeling like you're losing out. In order to make that happen, we are offering flexible options so participants can make responsible decisions based on their health.
Here are our options for registered participants who can't make it to the race:
DEFERRALS: Anyone can defer their entry to the 2021 event at any point before 4:00 PM on October 17th. There is a $20 deferral processing fee. To complete your deferral, select the option from our race store. Unfortunately, any requests after this date and time will not be able to be honored. If you choose this option you would be withdrawing from the event and would not be able to receive your swag or finisher medal.
SWITCH REGISTRATION FROM IN PERSON TO VIRTUAL: You can transfer your in-person registration to a virtual registration for free at any point before the race.
REFUNDS/CANCELLATION: As we all know the pandemic changes things quickly! We ask that you be flexible and patient as we may have to adjust things for this event up until the event takes place. In the event that the U.S. or NC government, Hendersonville County or City of Hendersonville declares a new stay-at-home order or places new restrictions on gatherings and we are not able to have the in person event, all ‘in person’ triathlon event registrations will automatically be converted to the Virtual event. If it gets switched to a virtual event you will receive a discount for the 2021 event, and your swag mailed.
Bring your own water/nutrition!
The course will not have water stations on it, so make sure to bring your own water and nutrition! We'll have a food truck waiting for you when you get back, but nothing along the course.
