Melanie has Stage IIIC Melanoma. She was diagnosed 4 years ago when she found a spot inside her ear. Undergoing 3 surgeries along with all treatment options that were available, nothing was stopping it or even slowing it down. The strength and determination she possesses inspire all of us to really appreciate life and live it to the fullest!
Last year a new drug became available for testing and she was accepted for the clinical trial. It has not stopped it from spreading but has slowed it down. We pray every day that this treatment will hold the cancer off long enough until a better treatment or cure becomes available.
Without money for research and clinical trials, more and more people will suffer and die from this horrible disease. As it stands right now Melanoma is one of the fastest growing cancers in the US and can strike men and women of all ages, all races and skin types.
With 1 in 50 lifetime risk of developing melanoma nearly 77,000 Americans are expected to be diagnosed with the disease this year... resulting in almost 10,000 deaths!
It is the most common form of cancer for young adults 25-29 and the second most common in adolescents and young adults 15-29.
Melanoma is NOT "Just Skin Cancer"!
