The Student Memorial Chapel and Garden is a proposed on campus building where students of all faiths can come to pray, meditate, or just remember those students who have passed away before their expected graduation date. The idea for a place like this on Clemson's campus originated in the mid 1990's, but after seven student deaths during the 2007 school year, the need for a place like this on Clemson's campus was never more evident. With the proposed location of the chapel in between the Brooks Center and the Strom Thurmond Institute, the chapel would provide a place of peace and tranquility amidst the sometimes hectic and confusing times of college, as well as serve as a memorial to members of the Clemson Family who were never able to become alumni.
The 15 member student committee that leads the effort to see this dream brought to life, has spearheaded many efforts to raise awareness and support for a crucial part of campus that is missing. Up until this point, students alone have raised over $200,000 for the chapel and garden, and events like the Student Memorial 5k are a huge reason why this project has so much support across the Clemson Family. We are striving daily to see this idea become reality. How will you make a difference?
