The Oxford-Bellevue Sharkfest Swim will be a 1500 meter swim across the Tred Avon River from Bellevue Park to the beach at the Tred Avon Yacht Club in Oxford. It will be coincide with slack tide to allow everyone to make the crossing. The swim course follows the route of the historic Oxford-Bellevue Ferry, which started operations in 1683--that's 332 years ago!!! Water temperature should be in the high-60s to mid-70's and the swim will be ahead of the dreaded nettles season. This region, steeped in history, is also the site of the James Michener's book "Chesapeake". Post event festivities will take place in Oxford, home of the famous Scottish Highland Creamery ice cream.
PLEASE NOTE: This swim is not for novices. This event is for experienced open-water swimmers only. You should be able to swim one mile comfortably in a pool in under 40 minutes.

ATHLETE CHECK-IN: Athlete Check-in is from 7:45-8:45AM at the Tred Avon Yacht Club, where you will have your hands numbered with your race number and pick up your swim cap, after which you will board the ferry nearby which departs at 9:00AM.
WATER TEMP: ~73-78° F
COURSE CUT-OFF TIME: 40 minutes
INCENTIVES: T-Shirts for all participants. Sharkfest Swim Medals for top three finishers in each age group (wetsuit & non-wetsuit combined). Personalized award plaques will also be mailed to the first place finishers in each age group (wetsuit & non-wetsuit combined).
AGE GROUP BREAKDOWN: Male and Female: 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-17, 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89, 90-94, 95-100!
ENTRANT LETTER: An entrant letter with all the race day details will be emailed to all registered participants and posted online here 1-2 weeks prior to event day. Please check back for any updates and the full race day itinerary.
PARKING: There will be street parking available on N. Morris Street south of W. Strand Road near the Tred Avon Yacht Club.
GEAR TRANSPORT: Please leave all your personal gear at the swim finish. If you need to wear a pair of shoes (or sweats if you're not wearing a wetsuit) onto the ferry, these items will be transported back to the finish line for you. PLEASE keep these items brought on the ferry to an absolute minimum.
CANCELLATIONS: Registrations are non-refundable. If you can no longer participate in this event, you may receive a rollover credit (minus a $20 processing fee) toward a future event as long as you let us know by April 10 2015. After that date, a doctor's note is required to receive a credit.
