My Story…
Welcome to my fundraising page! I am raising money for Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland.
Currently, I study law at the University of British Columbia (UBC), but worked at Big Sisters for a little over a year prior to my studies. Through working with Big Sisters, I became increasingly passionate about its project: that everyone deserves to have their potential ignited, and that everyone that needs a mentor should have one.
Mentorship has played a huge role in my life. I have been lucky to have numerous people in my academic, athletic, and musical lives that have served as role models and points of guidance. I know the benefits of mentorship firsthand, and my mentors have played a huge role in getting me to where I am today.
Like my mentors, running - along with strength training - is also a very valuable part of my life. Running is where I leave my stresses behind, where I feel connected and one with my body, and where I am also humbled into understanding my body's limits.
So: what a perfect combo to be the subject here! Running and mentorship.
I hope that you will be able to donate to this campaign! Especially during this past year, everyone's mental health has been less than optimal, but at-risk youth have arguably been hit the hardest. There are many girls and LGBT+ youth that are suffering from isolation, depression, body-image issues, substance use, as well as problems in the home. I know that mentoring is an excellent solution to some of these problems from firsthand experience, but there are also reliable bodies of evidence that show how mentorship is linked to improved mental health. It also produces high societal returns.
I also know the team at Big Sisters personally, and can attest that people who rely on their services are in good hands. Every single person I worked with at Big Sisters is devoted to their work, compassionate, highly competent, and dedicated to improving the lives of at-risk youth in the lower mainland.
If you, like me, are passionate about improving the lives of our at-risk youth with proven solutions, I encourage a donation!
Description
Big Sisters knows that every connection counts. With one in ten kids in the Lower Mainland not feeling they have a single adult who cares about them, our programs are vital in creating meaningful relationships for kids who need just one adult to believe in them to ignite their potential. Your donation directly supports our three mentoring programs which support over 850 youth each year. Everyday in a child's life is crucial, they shouldn't have to wait for the help they need to reach their full potential.
