We’re walking on Joey’s 15th birthday, 11 years after I took him home from KW Humane. Would you donate at least $15 in honour of 15 years of our Joey?
Joe was rescued by OSPCA with a large pack of sled racing hounds who were freezing and starving to death in Waterford. I saw this rescue story on CBC when I was traveling in France, where they shared that the dogs were finally safe and awaiting adoption at various humane societies across Ontario. Sadly, not all the dogs survived, but I knew I wanted to help if I could.
The moment I got home, I drove to KW Humane. My dog Lexi fell in love with feral, terrified Joey and became his best friend and teacher. Beautiful Joe is named after the Marshall Saunders novel about a throw-away dog who thrived against all the odds. Joey turning 15 is a miracle. The first 4 years of his life were unspeakably hard, and it took years to restore his health. He’s the most gentle, beautiful soul and had taught us so much about kindness, forgiveness, and love.
Joey was a fixture for many years at our yoga and fitness studios, and has been loved by so many adults and kids in these spaces. Thank you for helping this boy heal and grow, everyone! Happiest birthday walk Joe!
