Mon histoire…
I plan to walk for mental health because it's an invisible disability — one that affects millions of Canadians every year, yet is often misunderstood or overlooked.
In Canada, one in three people will experience a mental health issue at some point in their lifetime. Despite how common it is, only about 60% of those struggling actually seek help, often due to stigma, lack of resources, or fear of discrimination. According to the Canadian Mental Health Association, mental health-related disability claims now account for more than 30% of all workplace disability claims and are the leading cause of disability in Canada.
I believe it’s time we bring mental health struggles into the light. Just because we can’t see someone’s pain doesn’t mean it isn’t real or life-altering. Walking for mental health is a way for me to show solidarity with those who are fighting battles that are invisible to others — and to advocate for better support, funding, and understanding.
I walk to honour the strength it takes to live with depression, anxiety, PTSD, or any other mental health condition. I walk to help break the stigma so that no one feels ashamed to ask for help. And I walk with hope — hope that by raising awareness, we can create a more compassionate, informed, and supportive Canada for everyone.
