My Story…

Thanks for coming this far.

I've been thinking about how important it is to slow down.  I do this while preparing for a "race".  While I hope to finish faster than last year, speed is not the point.

In my brief 51+ years on this planet I have had my share of troubles- some harder to emerge from than others, but some dark times to be sure.  I don't talk about those troubles a lot, but I count myself lucky that I have a few dear ones around to listen when I need them.

I think my struggles with the dark or the low or the heavy are largely circumstantial. I’m introspective as well which can magnify my perspective on situations and make a mountain of a mole-hill. I can spiral and sometimes I can’t see the surface.

It was my wife Amber who convinced me to go to therapy for a while to look at these demons, and I am ever grateful to her for that. She was able to see what kind of help I needed because she has been through her own dark, low, heavy times.

I am not a complex case, but I know many, and the system is not perfect, it is not like teevee.  2025 is stressful and I think we need to focus more of our attention on helping each other through this uniquely baffling time.

I have had to slow down and ask for help recently. I find it difficult to do. I am getting better at it though.

The Run for Women is great because it exemplifies the mind’s health is the bodies’ health. I feel more stable since I started running at 47, and even more having started climbing at 49. These activities give me a focus; I work through problems on long runs and tricky climbs.

I do the Run for Women every year for the last 4 in honour of my Mother-in-Law: Angy Harrower.

Cheers,

Kevin
