My Story…
Why I’m Running the 5K
August has been a heartbreaking month for me and my family. I lost my Uncle “Papa Dondon,” who was not only my teacher and high school principal but also a father figure I looked up to. Just days after his passing, two of my closest cousins, Noel and Dale, both died of heart attacks—leaving behind young families. Only two weeks later, my cousin Lee lost his battle with brain cancer.
Amidst this grief, there has been a glimmer of hope—my niece Vanity recently completed her cancer treatment. Her strength reminds me to keep moving forward, even through loss.
I am running this 5K to honor the memory of my loved ones, to celebrate survivors like Vanity, and to raise awareness and support for families affected by loss, cancer, and heart disease.
If you feel moved, please join me in this journey—whether by running, donating, or simply sharing words of encouragement. Every step we take is a step toward hope, healing, and remembering those we love.
