My Story…
During my final year of high school, I started to experience recurring, distressing thoughts that gradually took over my daily life. At the time, I didn’t understand that these thoughts were rooted in a chemical imbalance. In an attempt to quiet my anxiety, I began engaging in compulsions, not realizing that each time I gave in to them, I was strengthening my OCD rather than easing it.
After months of struggling with severe symptoms, I was admitted for a brief one-night stay at a mental health facility. It was not a step I wanted to take, but it became a turning point in my life. I am forever grateful for the people who supported and encouraged me to seek that help.
During that time, I began medication and continued with therapy—both of which have allowed me to live alongside OCD in a healthier, more manageable way. OCD is not something that can simply be cured; it is something that must be understood, faced, and managed with patience and consistency.
I am sharing my story to raise awareness about this illness and to remind myself and others that what is manageable is mentionable. Speaking about it reduces shame, builds understanding, and makes healing feel less isolating.
