As a pain physician and anesthesiologist, I care for women living with chronic pelvic pain, one of the most complex and under-recognized conditions in medicine. Every day, I see the profound impact this has on their lives. The pain is not just physical, it affects their mental health, their relationships, their ability to work, and their sense of self. Many of the women I care for are also deeply vulnerable. A significant number have experienced trauma or abuse, which adds layers of complexity to both their pain and their care. They are often navigating a healthcare system that has not always listened to them, believed them, or supported them in the way they deserve. This is why this work matters so much.
