My Story…
In December 2018 l suffered a spinal cord injury at my C6 vertebrae. Initially I was paralyzed from the chest down, with very limited hand dexterity and arm strength. This was a drastic change from my previous active lifestyle. My introduction to Spinal Cord Injury BC began during my 6 month hospital stay. One of the peers made regular visits to answer my questions and offer advice on how to navigate this new life. Since then, SCI BC has shown us how to thrive versus just survive. They provide a valuable support community, where you can connect with others facing similar challenges. SCI BC has also introduced me to new activities (wheelchair boxing) and ways to adapt previous passions (adaptive mountain biking).
I'm attempting to walk 5km with my walker, to raise funds for SCI BC's programs. My previous longest distance is 3 km so I’m definitely challenging myself.
I realize there are many worthwhile causes out there, so l appreciate any type of support, whether it's financial or words of encouragement.
