My Story…

SCI-BC has been a force for good in my life for 44 years.  They were there in my very first days of rehab in 1982 when a peer living with SCI started visiting me to talk, listen and offer support.  Honestly, I wasn't too receptive at the time, but I still remember his kindness and his example of living with a SCI.  Years on, I realized those visits were invaluable to me in helping me move forward.  While I couldn’t appreciate that at the time, and may not have enjoyed them so much, I am very grateful they happened.   SCI-BC was a stable and friendly contact and support for me, and I needed that!

They are still here today in the coffee meet-ups I can get to (not enough!) and the in-person and online activities and events I can attend.  Again, not enough, but the invitation is always open!

In the years in between, they have had a hand in various ways in my education, employment, health, recreation and in many practicalities of daily living.  They are always there with information and/or resources when I have a question to ask.

They are community builders!  So many people are working hard there to constantly widen the circle of inclusion and to invite people into community in ways that are useful, interesting and fun.  They are committed to offering opportunities for connection and to keep on expanding possibilities for people by communicating relevant and up-to-date information on everything you can imagine, from new innovative gadgets to amazing travel adventures to the latest SCI medical research.

I have wanted to participate in this fundraiser for a few years now and I'm so happy to be doing it this year!  If you are able to donate, thank you.  You are helping to ensure that SCI-BC can continue its good work far into the future and that many will experience the benefit of it as I have, and still do!
