My Story…
Hi Friends and Family
Two years ago I wanted to walk in the Marathon and my knees and ankles were in rough shape so my friend Kathryn offered to walk in my place--thanks Kathryn!
Last year I walked the 5K with my friend Jane, and I did it! I was able to raise $6,000, thanks to your generosity, and we were able to raise enough to help sponsor a couple of families who are now waiting for their final interviews in Pakistan and Tajikistan. In case you didn't know, in order to sponsor families, we have to have enough money held in trust to support each family for a full year before we are able to file their paperwork according to the rules of the Canadian government. The wait is long, but now these families are in the queue!
We are now in the early stages of planning new sponsorships. We just recently were guaranteed 4 more spots from the government, (hooray!) so we can now work on fundraising for Zuhal, whose family fled Afghanistan due to the horrible government repression (especially for women), and has been living for more than 7 years without permanent status. Please help us raise enough to file the paperwork for Zuhal's family and begin to think ahead to next year to be able to sponsor other desperately needy families if we are lucky enough to obtain new spots for sponsorship.
No amount is too small, and I appreciate any amount you can give. Every Canadian who donates will get a charitable tax receipt. I am so sorry I cannot do the same for my American friends and family, but know you are all helping bring a family from unsafe and terrifying conditions into safety and into the support of the Holy Trinity Refugee Committee I am so proud to be a part of.
Much love to you all! Jo
