My Story…

In 2009, my wife and I were pregnant with our first kid. We were fortunate to learn of The 519's Queer Prenatal class.  There, we found our people ... people we didn't need to explain our relationship or our family to.  People we could just be 'us' with.  That is the power of community. They say it take a village to raise a child - that community became the framily we lean on.

I believe everyone should find the people and spaces where they can just be themselves.  That's what Rainbow Community Places offers for youth and seniors through their weekly drop-in programs. In 2025 I joined their Board of Directors and am incredibly proud of what we are doing together.

Your donation will directly fuel these safe(r) spaces and programs, ensuring RCP can continue operating. If you are able to support my run, please click the link below to visit my fundraising page. Thank you so much for cheering me on and helping us build a world where everyone can thrive!

Description

Rainbow Community Places currently offers two programs serving two demographics within the 2SLGBTQIA+ community: youth aged 13 - 20 through Toby's Place and seniors through Dorothy's Place. Both operate on Mondays at 33 East Road in Scarborough from September through July.

Toby's Place hosts community dinners, workshops, clothing swaps, gender-affirming haircut nights and other events from 3:30 to 8:30 pm.  Dorothy's Place hosts community lunches, workshops, and other social activities from 11:30 am to 2 pm.

A new youth program, COMET, modelled on Toby's Place, is opening on Tuesdays at 28 Fairlawn Avenue, North Toronto in September.
