My grandfather’s story is unreal. He barely made it but arrived in Canada with literally nothing (after strangers took pity on him and sponsored his journey, asking of him nothing other than that he ‘pay it forward’… which became his guiding force). He slowly became a successful entrepreneur and eventually his rags to riches story led him to encounters with the queen, the prime minister, US presidents and the pope. He retired early and dedicated his life entirely to charity, moving to the Dominican Republic to found and run the Samaritan Foundation for two decades.
