My Story…
This October, I'll be running the 2026 TCS Toronto Waterfront Half Marathon in support of Gilda's Toronto, in loving memory of my sister, Kathryn.
If you're able, I would be incredibly grateful for your support.
When Kathryn was diagnosed with cancer, Gilda's Toronto became so much more than a support organization. It gave her a community of people who truly understood what she and her family were going through. As a young mother, she found connection, encouragement, and friendship with others navigating the same unimaginable journey.
Gilda's also supported my nephew and niece, giving them opportunities to connect with other children who had a parent living with cancer. More importantly, they created moments for families to simply be together. Those experiences gave Kathryn and her children memories that I hope they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.
Since losing Kat last year, I've thought constantly about how to preserve her memory and continue the causes that meant so much to her. Even after her diagnosis, she dedicated herself to supporting and advocating for others facing cancer. Giving back to that community feels like a meaningful way to honour her legacy.
Running a marathon has always been on my bucket list (only 1/2 marathon this year), although I never imagined I would become someone who enjoys long-distance running. When I learned I could take on this challenge while raising funds for Gilda's Toronto, I knew this was the reason to finally do it.
Every donation, no matter the size, will help Gilda's Toronto continue providing free emotional and social support to individuals and families living with cancer.
Thank you for helping me honour Kathryn's memory and support families who need this community today.
Description
Please support me as I run for Gilda’s Toronto in the October 2026 TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon, ½ Marathon and 5K. This year marks a significant milestone – the 25th Anniversary of Gilda’s Toronto providing cancer support programs to adults living with cancer and support for their teens and children. Gilda’s Toronto also provides bereavement support to those who have lost someone to cancer. Cancer is complex. At Gilda’s Toronto, their philosophy is simple: that everyone living with cancer should have a welcoming, supportive and inclusive community to rely on throughout their unique journey. By supporting me, you ensure that individuals and families impacted by cancer continue to receive the emotional, educational and health-focused cancer support to help with cancer related anxiety. In the words of a Gilda’s Toronto participant: “My world fell apart when I was diagnosed with cancer – the Gilda’s Toronto cancer support programs allowed me to get support from others going through a similar life experience and grateful for the support they also provided to my husband and children.” By supporting me, you help Gilda’s Toronto continue to fulfill their vision: “to help people live while living with cancer”. Thank you.
