Description

NYO Canada (the National Youth Orchestra of Canada) is the country's premier, tuition-free training orchestra for young classical musicians, founded in 1960. Each year it auditions over 500 candidates aged 16 to 28, and offers a position to approximately 90 from across the country; musicians also receive an honorarium, so that musical ability, not financial means, determines who can participate. 

The program includes an Orchestral Training Institute, professional mentorship, career and wellness workshops, national and international touring, and Big Little Concerts, NYO Canada's free chamber music series. Roughly one-third of Canada's professional orchestral musicians are NYO Canada alumni, reflecting its role as a vital, accessible bridge between music education and a professional career.
