Yuko Sato - Female LOS 2026There's a definite shift in athletes' approach to the LOS during Satellite Championships year. Being the last qualifying weekend/event globally, there was more focus on team qualification this year at the Clint Eastwood.
With a group of Australian athletes vying to force their way into the team, along with a contingent from Japan, there was a justified buzz around the corral as both cohorts got closer to their goals, with two from each achieving their goals with 65 and 68 laps respectively.
Meanwhile, Yuko Sato quietly set about her business, setting surpassing the Japanese record of 48 laps and setting an Australian record of 65 laps to match her compatriots.
Next year will be a different focus, with the emphasis on qualifying for the individual backyard championship at Big's Backyard, but 2026 was a lesson in teamwork and camaraderie.
