About the Brain Hat Society: People with migraine, their caregivers, and their friends and family should be recognized for their heroic efforts. Stigma imposes a huge penalty in the everyday lives of patients with migraine. It increases social isolation and causes adverse consequences to self-esteem and mood. Stigmatized diseases get less research funding, and payers are less likely to pay for the treatment of stigmatized diseases. In order to reverse the stigma of migraine we need to understand why it exists. By wearing your brain hat, you are doing several things: joining a community of like-minded people who want real change about the perception of migraine, and other headache diseases, while also showing the public that migraine is a severe, neurological disease. In addition, you will show others that raising funds to alleviate a shortage of trained health care professionals who treat these diseases is necessary to help you and your fellow community members obtain better access to treatments. Finally, you will have fun wearing this hat to our events! Each time you achieve a new fundraising or attendance goal, you will receive an iron-on patch to add to your brain hat. So, please join the club!

Gear Check:
We will have a Gear Check tent Saturday morning. You can use the bottom portion of your bib to mark your bag and then plan to pick up your items after you finish your walk or run.
Map the Migraine:
Have you heard about our fun Map the Migraine scavenger hunt? It's a great interactive experience for children (and adults too) living with parent or sibling with migraine or perhaps even living with migraine themselves.
During this event, participants search for clues to find the ultimate treasure while learning facts about migraine along the way. Through silly riddles, personalized stories, and vivid pictures, Brett will teach kids about the burden of migraine not only from a pain/disability standpoint, but also the social impact (isolation, self-esteem, mood) it imposes on the child and/or affected family member. The goal is for each participant to 1) HAVE FUN and 2) Better understand a disease that is otherwise invisible to many people.
The event is free. We encourage you to register in advance for this event so we can be sure to have enough prizes.
Just Relax Tent:
Come join us in our new Just Relax Tent and color some relaxing mandala's with us.
Pain, such as that experienced with migraine, can be disruptive to so many arenas of life. It can also be difficult to explain to others what that pain is like for you. Art can be a powerful tool for expressing thoughts, emotions and conveying experiences to others and a particularly helpful tool in giving a face to your pain that others can begin to comprehend. One purpose of the My Brain Art Tent is to provide people with the opportunity to use different visual art materials to express what their migraine looks like and feels like to them as well as a chance to see the images others have created. What does migraine look like or how are they felt by a caregiver? Our hope is to provide an a space in which people can take time out to tune into their experiences with migraine creatively. Using art to express our experiences with pain can also help reduce pain, either through distraction or through visualizing healing and comfort in the face of a painful moment. Making art may also help shift how you feel about migraine. You are not alone, we are here for one another and when we create art together we begin to celebrate and honor our shared experiences and feel a greater sense of support and belonging.
Passport to Prizes Raffle:
Stop by each of our sponsor booths and earn a chance to win a free registration to our 2020 event AND a snazzy Miles for Migraine baseball hat. After chatting with each sponsor, you earn a raffle ticket. The more visiting you do, the more tickets you earn. We will hold a drawing during the 5K/10K awards ceremony for our lucky winner!
