Lorrie Reynolds – T7 ASIA A Complete (original diagnosis)
Hello, my name is Lorrie Reynolds. I was born in 1968 making me 43 years old at the time of my Spinal Cord Injury. I have an extraordinary family, a wonderful husband and two terrific teenage daughters. I have thoroughly enjoyed a career at Southlake Regional Health Centre for over 22 years.
On July 16, 2012 I woke up in the night and my left foot had fallen asleep. Overnight it progressively got worse. I went to Southlake and was quickly diagnosed with a mass on T7. I was immediately transferred to St. Michaels Hospital and upon further investigation the mass was confirmed as a cavernoma in my spinal cord at T7. The cavernoma had hemorrhaged causing pressure on my spinal cord. Over night I went from being an independent active woman running 10k every other day, playing ball hockey and waterskiing to being paralyzed. It is considered very rare for a cavernoma to cause such catastrophic outcomes in such a short period of time. Following surgery I was transferred to Lyndhurst for rehabilitation, and on October 4, 2012 I was finally able to come home. I had heard about Walk It Off from David Kemp; I can not believe my good fortune to have this facility so close to home and benefit greatly from the support and camaraderie of my peers.
I have noticed a tremendous improvement in my upper body and core strength as well as my balance. I am gaining my independence and active lifestyle back one day at a time.
