While fraught with continual difficult and unexpected turns, my two-year recurring ovarian cancer journey has given me a richer life perspective. I now more deeply know my quality of life depends on ways to protect my own health and the health of all women. My cancer is a part of me -- it grows inside of me. I own it; it defines my every moment. Keeping my heart, mind, and spirit as strong as possible are my greatest defense weapons I am committed to expression of gratitude for the support of my family, friends, and medical community; to seek ways in which I may help educate all women of this disease's symptoms to achieve an early diagnosis; to advocate for more research funding for screening tools and treatments; and to create awareness -- to make OV a speakable disease, to eradicate its nickname, "the silent killer."
