Our story…

Marin County School Volunteers enriches student learning by recruiting, training and pairing volunteer tutors with students in Marin public schools. However, volunteers are not free. Schools mandate: fingerprints, a TB test, training on legal, ethical and, current educational issues. It costs approximately $275 for one volunteer to be trained and placed effectively. Then, once we have great volunteer tutors, we don’t want to lose them! Our paid staff works to provide appropriate ongoing support to ensure a good fit and a good experience for all. Volunteers express an increased sense of purpose; they feel they make a positive difference, and they have a better understanding of our diverse community as a result of their volunteer experience with us. The evidence is consistent, positive, and convincing: caring, informed, engaged volunteers have a major influence on student achievement! i
