It's Ohio. It’s June. It’s Triathlon Season. When it comes to triathlon and duathlon in Ohio, we got you covered. There is no better way to kick-off your season then with the Central Ohio Triathlon & Duathlon Challenge. Race weekend consists of multiple distance options, including the Central Ohio Super Sprint, Sprint, Olympic, and TripleTri Challenges. You can participate in the challenge as individuals, as part of a relay with best friends, family or even co-workers.
We are excited to get back to our core and introduce a new participation opportunity the day prior to the event – the Central Ohio Aquathlon Challenge. The Central Ohio Open Waters Swims return with its great training and competition options.
If you haven’t heard yet, we’re taking some bold steps this year, launching a myriad of new initiatives that Central Ohio hasn’t yet seen. Our goal is to make the sport of triathlon a bit friendlier for new athletes, as well as enhance the experience of our seasoned veterans.
We are also introducing the “Try A Tri” program where every registered participant through April 30 of the Central Ohio Triathlon Challenge will receive an email with a special code that will give a friend, family member, co-worker or even a stranger who has (1) never done a triathlon before, (2) has never done a Greenswell triathlon before, or has not done a triathlon in over 3 years, a special $20 base entry into the Super Sprint triathlon.
What's New in 2018?
- New swim course. Based on your feedback, we have re-designed the swim course to create a different swim experience then ever before.
- New Transition location. Along with a new swim course, we created a new central transition area that allows closer access to restrooms and lockerooms.
- New Celebration Area. The newly redesigned park patio is a great way to celebrate and celebrate your experience after the event with your fellow athletes.
- We have adopted a option-based registration approach to allow athletes to reduce the cost of their participation. The base entry fee does not include an event shirt or medal but you have the option of adding these items to your registration. This allows you some flexibility to participate in one of our great events at a minimal entry fee.
- All active and reserve military, police, fire, and EMT receive 50% off their entry into Central Ohio Triathlon Challenge. (Use code '1stRESPOND' - see below for more details). We appreciate your service and we want to recognize your service.
- New participation divisions to allow competitive athletes to compete with like-minded athletes and other specialized divisions to allow athletes other participation choices. New divisions include: Aquabike, First Responders, Athena and Clydesdale, Mountain Bike/City Bike, and Recreational.
- Relay teams will have more participation options – Male only, Female only, Co-ed (mixed), Corporate/Club teams.
- Award Ceremony will take place at the Celebration. Athletes will be able to celebrate their finish with friends and other participants.
- Training Program opportunity, which includes training plan, swim clinics, group rides and runs, and even a practice triathlon.
- No more waiting in lines at packet pick-up. We are introducing the Advantage program giving you the option of having your event packet and materials delivered to your home or office. This ideal for the busy professional and reduces the stress of race day.

Divisions – Come One, Come All
The Central Ohio Triathlon & Duathlon Challenge is far from a one-size-fits-all event. The event is composed of a variety of special programs and competitions, each designed to accommodate participants of every ability, interest level and goal.
In the spirit of providing a customized race experience, athletes have the ability to decide how competitive they wish to be, who they start alongside, and/or when they start their respective journey. Athletes will have the option to choose if they wish to compete as an award-eligible competitive athlete or purely for the joy of participating as a recreational athlete.
Individuals must select from one of these divisions within the registration process. Full descriptions for each group are included below.
COMPETITIVE DIVISIONS AND AWARD STRUCTURE
Participants within these divisions are primarily focused on speed, each of whom are eligible for competitive awards within their specific group. Please note certain categories are triathlon-only categories. Competitive categories include:
Age Group - All individuals registered for the Sprint and Olympic distances are automatically placed in this category, unless choosing a different division during the registration process. Note: All participants in the Super Sprint are automatically registered in the Recreational Division (See below).Age groups are subdivided by gender and five-year age increments (e.g. 20-24, 24-29, 30-34, through 80 – 84, etc.). It is important to note that Age Groups are assigned based on athlete age as of December 31 of race year (thus no changes during the calendar year). The Top Male and Female finisher in each age group are eligible for award commemorating their finish and place. For the TripleTri, only the Top 3 male and female finishers are eligible for commemorativee awards.
Aquabike - Athletes who choose to participate in the Olympic and TripleTri Aquabike category will complete their respective swim and bike and then head to the finish line to finish their event. First Responders are subdivided by gender. The Top Three Male and Female finishers are eligible for an award commemorating their finish and place. This is a triathlon-only category.
Clydesdale / Athena - Generally heavier participants may opt-into this division. These athletes are subdivided by gender, each of whom must meet these minimum weight requirements – Athena: 165 lbs and Clydesdale: 220 lbs. The Top Three Male and Female finishers are eligible for an award commemorating their finish and place. This is a triathlon-only category.
