Raise money for NHHS Foundation
Who benefits from this year’s fundraising?
The NHHS Foundation adopted the Healthy Kids Snack Bags program in 2012. Since Fall 2013, the NHHS Foundation has provided snack bags to elementary school children in Newport, Oldtown, Priest River, Priest Lake, and Cusick. Now that we have expanded our deliveries, our overall fundraising goal is sustainability. In addition to the week's worth of healthy snacks, Newport Hospital and Health Services Foundation also provides weekly health education/nutrition materials with each child’s backpack.
This year's event also benefits Reach Out and Read through our rural health clinics. Reach Out and Read is a parenting and early literacy program that helps children be ready for kindergarten by partnering with doctors to prescribe books and encourage families to read together. Doctors, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants incorporate Reach Out and Read’s evidence-based model into well-child checkups from ages 6 months through 5 years. Medical providers give each child a developmentally and culturally appropriate children’s book to take home and keep. As they do so, they model and teach parents how to support language and literacy at home. Families leave each visit with the book and the skills to go home and read with their child, knowing how to support their development over time.
