Raise money for 5k for Logan & RMH of Delaware
Logan is 14 and was born with congenital cytomegalovirus. The virus attacked his brain, ears, and eyes
in utero and calcified much of it. Because of this virus, Logan was born with cerebral palsy, a seizure
disorder, has a feeding tube, is completely deaf in one ear and has moderate loss in the other, functions
at a Kindergarten level and is labeled failure to thrive because of his weight. He has been through many
surgeries in his life and has conquered each one with a smile on his face. His last surgery was on April 3 rd
in which he had a hip derotation performed. His orthopedic surgeon cut through his hip bone and
rotated it out and placed rods and screws to hold the bone in place. He also cut and lengthened his
groin muscles as well as cut and lengthened each of his hamstring muscles. He remained at AI Children’s
Hospital for over 3 months receiving physical therapy to learn how to walk again, occupational therapy,
school, and massage therapy. During this time, our family stayed at the Ronald McDonald House of
Delaware so we could stay together, closer to the hospital.
Logan’s brothers are also dealing with medical issues themselves. His older brother, Keegan, was
diagnosed with late stage Lyme disease 2 years ago. He at times has flare ups in which all of his joints
are very painful, he loses some of his short term memory, and becomes sick with flu like symptoms.
Managing this disease is sometimes very difficult for him. Logan’s younger brother, Gavin, deals with
ADHD as well as extreme anxiety because of the stress of Logan’s condition. He sees a psychologist as
well as a psychiatrist to talk through his “worries about his brother dying.”
Because I am a single mother, it is sometimes very stressful financially. The proceeds from this race will
be used for medical and family bills, and donating a portion to the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware.
