My Story…

Hi. My name is Chloe Poirier and I am 14 years old. I live in Kenora, Ont. I was first diagnosed with MYOFIBROBLASTIC SARCOMA in my right lung when i was 20 months old. I’ve been fighting cancer almost my whole life. I have had many surgeries, procedures, tests and scans. My Mom says I could probably glow in the dark! I have relapsed 3 times, which basically is every time I have a chemo break my cancer comes back after about 6 months. The worst was when I had to have radiation and chemo 3 years ago. I was really, really sick. I am now in a wheelchair most of the time and on oxygen all of the time. But that doesn’t stop me! I am in Grade 9 French Immersion (academic) and love spending time with my friends. At home i love to play games on the computer and read Harry Potter fan fiction. Like any teen I am obsessed with music! I have gone to Camp Ooch the past 2 years and have had the best times of my life. I just that OOCH FEELING and can’t wait to go back again!

Description

Help send kids affected by childhood cancer to Camp Ooch!

A diagnosis of childhood cancer is a big, scary, sudden swerve in the road, changing life in an instant.

For affected families, it can feel like everything is about cancer. Simple, childhood joys like friendships, birthday parties, or sports teams are left behind in the need for medical appointments, hospital stays, and long absences from school.

For over 35 years, Camp Ooch has offered a different path – the healing power of fun, friendship and self-confidence, and the joy of kids getting to just be kids!

Often referred to as the social cure for cancer, Ooch provides programming at overnight camp, in specialized paediatric cancer centres and in communities across Ontario, including right here in Ottawa. Camp Ooch is the only overnight camp in Canada to offer onsite IV chemotherapy and blood transfusions.

Camp Ooch is a privately funded, volunteer-based organization that relies exclusively on the generous support of fundraisers, corporate donors and individuals, like you.

Ooch changes the lives of over 1,500 kids affected by childhood cancer every year, including over 65 kids from the Ottawa region. However, almost 80% of kids with cancer in Ontario don’t have access to the wonders of camp.

Cancer changes a child's life.  So does Camp.  And so can you.
