My Story…

David and I married in June 2013 and a month later, found ourselves sitting in an office at the Institute for Reproductive Health in Cincinnati, OH. At that consultation, we were diagnosed with male and female factor infertility. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and low morphology were the exact diagnoses. It meant that starting a family would not come easy for us. Like many others faced with the costs of IVF, David and I weren’t sure how we were going to afford treatments. We began researching insurance plans and realized that because my employer was located in Illinois, IVF was fully covered. So, in January 2014, we began IVF hoping to fix our broken hearts. After three rounds of IVF and a bout of OHSS (ovarian hyper-stimulation syndrome), we became pregnant with twins. Almost a year later to the exact date we started IVF, we welcomed our twin miracles, Violet and Logan. Infertility is a disease that can leave couples feeling isolated and often come with a huge financial burden. As David and I went through the IVF process, we met several couples that not only had to overcome the emotional roller coaster, but the financial burden as well. We could not help but feel fortunate and blessed that we became parents, but also that we did not have to bear the financial burden of infertility due to my employer providing fertility coverage. So, we began looking for ways to give back. We first began giving back by donating our two remaining embryos from our IVF cycles to a couple longing to start a family. That couple gave birth to a baby boy in the summer of 2016. The embryo donation only fueled our desire to give back even more. After conducting a significant amount of research, David and I discovered that there were very few nonprofit organizations across the country that supported the infertility community. We believed an infertility non-profit was a needed organization in our community, so, in January 2016, we created Parental Hope. Join the Parental Hope team!
