My Story…

My name is Colin Penuel and I was born with cystic fibrosis. I am now 30 years old, I graduated from Georgia Tech in 2013 and I work for Big Peach Running Co. I always enjoyed running and being active growing up, but I decided to add meaning to my running by fundraising for Miles for CF in 2011. Miles for CF gives money to the CF Foundation to help research new treatments and hopefully a potential cure for CF, as well as to Georgia families affected by CF who are struggling. We have also added a BreatheStrong program that pays for gym memberships, lessons, equipment, anything to help people with CF get moving and be more active. I have finished 7 half marathons, numerous 10Ks, and a handful of 5Ks and over the years I have now raised over $30,000 for Miles for CF!! Running is very difficult for me, especially when my lung function is down, but it also helps me improve my lung function and overall quality of life. It's even better to see how my running can help others with CF

Description

Cystic Fibrosis is a progressive, life-shortening genetic disease that affects the respiratory and digestive systems, making it increasingly hard to breathe as the disease progresses. There is no cure. Training to run or participate in an endurance event takes the kind of effort that children and adults living with cystic fibrosis must endure every day just to breathe.  Exercise is an effective way for people with CF to clear their airways, build endurance and strength, increase appetite, and just feel better!

Miles for Cystic Fibrosis is an Atlanta-based nonprofit that encourages and supports exercise and physical activity for individuals living with cystic fibrosis through the BreatheStrong exercise grant program. M4CF also contributes to organizations that provide emergency financial assistance for CF families and conduct research for better treatments and search for a cure.
