My Story…
My partner Kent and I founded the Edmonton Pride Run & Walk in 2015. Being a proud member of Edmonton's LGBTQ+ community and an avid runner is what initially inspired me to start an inclusive run/walk event in Edmonton during the Edmonton Pride Festival.
Our other goal in creating this event was raising money to support educational opportunities for LGBTQ+ students. When I was in University I was fortunate enough to receive some financial support when I desperately needed it, so I personally understand the impact of having supports like this in place.
In 2017, we established the Edmonton Pride Run Endowment Fund at the University of Alberta, which starting this year will fund a bursary specifically for students who identify as LGBTQ+, based on demonstrated financial need. In 2017, we were able to contribute $24,000 to this endowment fund and our fundraising goal this year is $25,000.
