My Story…
In September 2019, my 17 year old son was diagnosed with enthesitis-related juvenile idiopathic arthritis. Four years before diagnosis, he was enjoying indoor soccer but developed unexplained pain in his feet which subsequently prevented him from participating in the sports that he loved. In the following years, he experienced progressive pain and despite investigations with specialists and support from a physiotherapist and orthotist, we were unable to understand what was happening. In the last five months before diagnosis, his pain was immobilizing without high doses of anti-inflammatory meds. All through this time, he has never complained and simply has the desire to live his life and participate in normal teenage activities. Unable to tolerate the anti-inflammatory meds and sulfa drugs, he is fortunate to have responded well to biologic medications. I am supporting the Arthritis Society to help fund research so that arthritis can be better understood, treated and even cured.
Description
Arthritis Society, founded in 1948, is a national health charity, fueled by donors and volunteers, with a vision to live in a world where people are free from the devastating effects that arthritis has on lives. We have three focus areas: research, advocacy and practical solutions. We are the largest non-government funder of arthritis research in Canada; we actively champion the needs of Canadians affected by arthritis; and we develop and disseminate evidence-based information and education with the goal of improving quality of life for people living with arthritis.
