My Story…
Thank you for visiting my page, I will be running my first 5k in support of the Brain Injury Association, a cause very important to me.
Growing up, I loved sports in general and was a strong athlete. Mainly, played ringette competitively, primarily as a goalie, for 13 years. I was also a referee and assistant coach during clinics. However, in 2014, my ability to participate in sports was forever changed.
This March will mark 6 years since I was diagnosed with Post Concussion Syndrome (PCS). PCS has impacted all areas of my life, resulting in ADHD, memory difficulty, chronic pain, neurofatigue, communication & comprehension issues and more.
As I continue to live with PCS, I have become a passionate advocate for the syndrome. In the future, I hope to work with brain injury patients. Much more research is needed and I hope to help my fellow warriors and teach others about the reality of living with a brain injury. This is why I’m raising money for this specific association.
Description
Living with an acquired brain injury (ABI) can impact every aspect of a person’s life: physical, cognitive, emotional, social and behavioural. ABI is more prevalent than Multiple Sclerosis, Spinal Cord Injury, HIV/AIDS and Breast Cancer combined, yet does not receive the attention it should. Help us prove that brain injury is not invisible!
Start fundraising today to support education, awareness and advocacy, ensuring the millions of Canadians living with the effects of acquired brain injury are supported, valued and engaged in their communities.
To show our appreciation for raising funds, runners raising $100 or more will receive a 2020 Brain Injury Canada Ottawa Race Weekend performance t-shirt.
