I am walking to raise funds for Synapcity, a non-profit organization that encourages civic participation, bringing people and institutions together to improve our city, without political bias. COVID-19 has put intense pressure on everyone, but especially on vulnerable people dealing with precarious housing, food insecurity and soaring unemployment. Thousands of residents have not missed a beat – front line workers are doing extra duty, neighbours are looking after neighbours, people are volunteering to cope with emergencies. They are all demonstrating that it is the connections and the trust between people that make a difference in community. I was a founding member of Synapcity in 2012 because I believe in the power and magic of community. Synapcity brings people and institutions together to make a difference. We have the will to focus on the recovery needs of our people and our city. Our team goal is $10,000. That’s ambitious, I know. But our city is worth it.
