Hello everyone! As you all know I was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer about a year and a half ago. It has been quite the journey, with its ups and downs, during which I have learned more than I every wanted to know about lung cancer!
One of the biggest surprises for me was the lack of funding for lung cancer research when compared to other cancers, which actually have a higher survival rates. My survival to date is a direct result of such research which has resulted in the development of the targeted treatments that have kept me alive!
So this spring I am going to do my bit and have entered the Ottawa Race Weekend to raise money for lung cancer research. I realize that times are tough right now so I do not want to pressure anyone to donate. I just want to provide an easy way for those who are so inclined to do so. Every day 57 Canadians will die from Lung cancer. It kills more than 20,000 people each year – more than breast, prostate and colon cancer combined, yet advancements are handicapped by vastly inadequate research funding.
