Help Alexandra raise money

For participating in Blue Nose Marathon

My Story…

Okay okay, so I don't really plan on becoming a marathon runner but I'm taking on this Charity Challenge for a cause that means a lot to me. I'm a non-runner who has never even run a 5km before but I became inspired to start a fundraiser that will not only push myself to try something new, but more importantly, raise money for this charity. Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a neuromuscular disorder found in 1/5000 boys that does not currently have a proven cure, meaning that despite a lot of technological advancements, patients still only have life expectancy of about 30. All of the money I raise during this Charity Challenge will be going to the Muscular Dystrophy Canada- Atlantic Chapter to help local families with purchasing equipment (power wheel chairs, therapeutic bed etc). For every $100 I raise, I'll be running one extra km meaning if I raise $1000, I'll run 10km. If I raise $1500, I'll run 15km, and if I raise $2000, I'll run the half marathon! Help me help the kids, Alex

Description

More than 50,000 Canadians are affected by one of the over 160 types of neuromuscular disorders. For 64 years, Muscular Dystrophy Canada has been the leading charity helping improve the quality of life for individuals living with neuromuscular disorders, their families, caregivers and communities. We have been funding research and looking for new therapies and treatments which have helped Canadians affected live longer, more enriched lives. Although there is presently no cure for neuromuscular disorders, there are some medications and treatments that help manage some conditions and slow the progressive deterioration in muscle strength. For some individuals, these disorders are fatal.

Muscular Dystrophy Canada offers a wide range of programs and services that include: funding equipment to improve daily life, providing emotional support, information, education and advocacy. An important part of fulfilling Muscular Dystrophy Canada’s mission is alleviating financial pressures for Canadians living with neuromuscular disorders and enabling them to lead more independent lives.
