My Story…
I'm not a runner. I can run, but running has always been a means to end: catch the ferry; get an assignment in on time; pick up kids from a program; etc. Now I'm running to raise funds for Parents and Children Together Family Resource Centre (PACT). As a stay at home father, PACT was a tremendous resource for me and my two daughters (now 6 and 4 years of age). It provided a welcoming place where I could go and play with my girls in an inclusive environment with stimulating toys, arts and crafts, and kids are taught that clean up is part of play. Snacks for children and coffee or tea for parents and caregivers are provided. PACT provides an opportunity to connect with other young families and talk to other adults which is important for mental health as being a full time caregiver of infants and toddlers can be isolating at times. The staff our incredibly supportive, caring and positive, and my children now greet them with hugs even when we run into them outside of PACT facility.
Description
PACT (Parents and Children Together) offers programs and support to parents, expectant parents and caregivers in Cole Harbour and the surrounding area. As the old proverb says “It takes a village to raise a child.” PACT is calling upon village members - parents, grandparents, caregivers, friends, neighbours, and people who live and work in the community to support our team as we walk and run in the Bluenose Marathon to raise funds to impact the healthy development of the families and children in our community.
