My Story…

Hey everyone, Like many others, I've taken up running over the past few months and am excited to participate in my first race - a 10k as part of Nova Scotia's Blue Nose Marathon! With the Blue Nose taking place virtually this year, I can participate from Ottawa and fundraise to support an organization in my beloved home province <3 Shelter Movers is an awesome organization that supports (mostly) women and children move themselves out of situations of domestic violence into shelters and eventually their new, safe homes. I've volunteered with them here in Ottawa and they're doing awesome work that is in unfortunately high demand here in Ontario as well as in Nova Scotia. Thanks for any support you can provide to my fundraising goal of $300 for Shelter Movers :)

Description

Shelter Movers is the only service of its kind in Canada, operating in Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa and Halifax Regional Municipality. Over 500+ volunteers across the country create a safe and empowering space for survivors of abuse to transition to a better life.  Growing evidence suggests a significant long-term societal benefit when the cycle of violence is broken. Shelter Movers takes on the logistical, security and financial burden of moving and storing survivors’ belongings, allowing local social services (shelters, police and hospitals) to focus on their primary objectives. Shelter Movers partners with in excess of 60 shelters and agencies in the cities we serve, and since being established in 2016, we have completed over 1100 moves across Canada.
