DUE TO COVID-19, THE CANOPY HOUSING FOUNDATION HAS MADE THE DIFFICULT DECISION TO CANCEL THE 2020 STRIDES FOR SHELTER 5K, PREVIOUSLY SCHEDULED ON OCTOBER 4, 2020.




In response to guidance from Governor Cooper’s office and public health officials surrounding the COVID-19 crisis, we have evaluated the prospects for a safe and successful Strides for Shelter 5K race. Our primary concern is the safety of all participants, volunteers, sponsors and staff. Due to this concern, the leadership of the Canopy Housing Foundation and Canopy Realtor® Association have decided to cancel this year’s Strides for Shelter 5K race on Sunday, Oct. 4.


In light of the cancellation, we hope you will choose to donate your registration fee to Hope House Foundation, who would have been this year’s race beneficiary. These donated funds will allow Hope House to address the increased need by our homeless neighbors for support as a result of the ongoing pandemic.


We understand if you prefer to have your registration fee refunded. To request a refund, please email Stacy.Baum@carolinahome.com by 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 10. If we do not hear from you by then, your registration fee will be considered a donation to Hope House Foundation.


Thank you so much for your support of the Strides for Shelter 5K and Hope House Foundation. Since the inception of the Strides for Shelter 5K in 2016, the Canopy Housing Foundation has returned $65,000 from the race proceeds to several worthy local beneficiaries who are all working to address the needs of the homeless.


We look forward to seeing you at next year’s race. Be sure to check back on this website for the new 2021 date!

Registration Policies

  • There will be no refunds for this race.
  • Entries are non-transferable.
  • Race Management reserves the right to cancel or modify the event due to unfavorable conditions.
  • Registration fees are not refundable in the event of cancellation due to "Acts of God".
