My Story…

I joined the Vancouver Youth Choir only two years ago, but it was clear to me from my first rehearsal that this organization is incredibly special. Our amazing Artistic Director Carrie Tennant has created with VYC not only a fantastic choir, but for so many young people a safe space to grow, learn, and forge real connections. It is truly an honour to be a member of this choir, and I'm immensely grateful to Carrie for giving me the opportunity to be a part of it. For many arts communities, and the choral communities especially, the pandemic prevents us from being able to safely share what we do and strains the connections we work hard to build. Please support us if you can so we can continue to be a safe space for youth and spread our art both locally and perhaps soon, globally.

Description

The Vancouver Youth Choir is Vancouver’s newest choral organization for children and youth. Founded in 2013 by Carrie Tennant, the choirs provide a space for promising young singers to develop their artistry in a safe and supportive environment. In six years, the organization has grown from a single choir of 30 members to more than 250 members in five separate ensembles. Says Artistic Director Carrie Tennant: “In all our levels, we strive for artistry and excellence. We believe in the artistic potential of young people regardless of their age, ability or experience. Just as important to us, however, is to create a safe and encouraging place for this artistry to develop. In addition to building skill and fostering talent, it is part of the Vancouver Youth Choir’s mandate to develop creative, caring citizens who value contributing to and investing in their communities.”
