To My Friends, Family and Supporters:

Wow, it is amazing how quickly the year has passed since my last Scotiabank run.  Yes, I am coming up to my first anniversary at Evangel Hall Mission (ehm) and what a year it has been.  I am sure that 2020, will be known as the year of the pandemic and ehm attempted to do its best.  

In the beginning, during the early days of the nation-wide stay at home order, food security became an instant concern for many of ehm clients.  At that time, voluntary food sources closed up and ehm was limited to handing out canned food from our kitchen pantry to our residents.  It was hard to have a resident say thank you to you for a simple can of stew because they had not eaten for two days.

After a month, food sources started opening up and ehm began providing hot takeout meals from behind a plexi-glass barrier.   The takeout numbers has quickly grown, and we are now providing about 175 meals a day.  And as of Sunday, September 20th, we are now operating six days a week and are providing a physically distanced worship service.  Times have changed, but the needs of many have not.

I still believe that ehm is a great place for the people on the streets, the homeless and the not so well off to gather and receive a meal or two and allow them the opportunity to talk to someone if they wish.  I still believe that loneliness is a significant factor and by having a place like ehm allows people who are homeless or socially isolated to find a safe and caring haven.  ehm offers material, emotional, and spiritual support to help break the bonds of loneliness and despair.  Today, everybody is welcomed into our community with caring eyes, open ears and kind words.

Jesus said, "for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me."
