My Story…
This year, I am once again participating in the annual Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon (STWM). This will be the 14th consecutive year that I am doing this event as part of the "charity challenge" in support of the Asperger’s Society of Ontario (which will soon be rebranding to "ASO"). However, since we are in the middle of a pandemic, this year the event will be held virtually and I will do the 5km distance independently.
As you may already know, ASO is a charity that’s very close to my heart. My 23-year-old was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome (an Autism Spectrum Disorder that is now known as ASD Level 1) at age 6, and since that time ASO has been instrumental in helping us get through many of the most challenging moments we’ve faced.
Since the onset of the pandemic, ASO has seen an almost 200% increase in outreach for support from individuals and families in need of assistance. At the same time, ASO has seen a significant drop in charitable donations. As an organization that receives no government funding and relies solely on donations and fundraising efforts like this event to provide services FREE of charge, your donation is needed today more than ever.
This year, ASO aims to raise $25,000 through this event - and I am looking to raise $5,000 (or even more, if possible). Your donation will help to ensure the organization can continue to provide services to other individuals with ASD and families like ours. Every penny you donate goes directly to the ASO and all donations receive an official tax receipt.
This is our most important fundraising event of the year, and I am hoping you can help me make a real difference for this small but mighty organization.
Thank you for your support!
